Social Enterprise in the UK: A question of growth
Beautiful Enterprise | Policy Lab Paper
This Policy Lab paper provides a new and updated assessment of the scale of social enterprise in the UK. Social enterprise accounts for over 130,000 employers and 5% of the UK’s GDP and contnues to grow.
The paper also raises three important questions about how and where this growth is happening:
How much do we really know about how social enterprises are growing?
Why is their regional distribution across the nation so poorly understood?
And are they well represented in deprived areas - or not?
Addressing these questions would give us a better understanding of how and where social enterprises grow, and allow us to shape more effective strategies for social investment and enteprise support - to accelerate the growth of social enterprises.
